PEIKWEN
Peikwen Cheng's series Less Than Zero examines ice through the topography of texture and cold. They are comprised primarily of images captured in northern Sweden near the Arctic Circle. These textures and patterns, represented on a macro scale, call out the natural incidents and coincidences that occur in the moment.
Less than Zero received First Prize in the 2006 International Photo Awards Competetion in the "Nature, Underwater" category. It also received honorable mentions in two Fine Art categories. Peikwen was selected for the Unframed First Look exhibition at the Sean Kelly Gallery in New York by noted artists Cindy Sherman, Adam Fuss, and Jack Pierson. His recent work has been selected for the International Photography Awards, Best of Show Exhibition, which will expose the work to six countries. Peikwen was awarded a Cultural Equity Grant from the San Francisco Arts Commission in 2003, an Industrial Design Excellence Award from BusinessWeek in 2002, and a Design Patent in 2002.
Less Than Zero landscapes are printed in a numbered limited edition series and in sizes up to 40 x 60 inches. The large 40 x 60 prints are in a numbered limited edition of 10. (Prices increase with each successive print sold.) The 20 x 30 and 24 x 36 photographs are in a limited edition of 25.
Ice & Glass will be his final show prior to moving to China this Winter.
